Today's Track

Jeff will post the map of the track later tonight or tomorrow.  It went down paths and streets we've been down before, and we are unsure of whether this is a track of Sass' path today, or if Salsa just picked up a scent that Sass laid down within the last couple of weeks.

It's frustrating not to be able to catch up with her, and once we've looked at the map and had a chance to talk about what we can do next we'll let everyone know what comes next. Because this track closely mirrored the last one, it may be worth it to try and find a sympathetic homeowner who would allow us to put up a humane trap as a long-term prospect - we could perhaps bait it with our scent instead of food so that other - much less desirable -- critters are lured into the yard.  It's a lot to ask of someone, since we'd also be asking them to monitor it.   Otherwise, we are glad to know she's still out there, and sticking to the neighborhoods she knows.  Both of those facts make it more likely that we'll be able to bring her home someday.

  1. That intersection is right by Columbia Country Club. Maybe she's been keeping warm by their facilities (?) Have you contacted the management to ask if they might be able to help with a trap? Their maintenance and security crews are out and about most of the time.

In any case, if you need volunteers to help monitor a trap, Rick and I will be back in town tomorrow (Monday) afternoon and stand at the ready to help.

Please let us all know what you need.

  2. She roams mostly at night from what I read before so don't give up, call her often, I'm sure she knows your voices. I know you won't give up! I truly hope there is a good Samaritan to help you and during this time of year there would be shame on them. I'm just saying with the Holiday season but really, she is a loving, living being. I would stay up all night looking out for your Sassafras! It's too bad I'm so far away but I am sure you will find many kind people for your Sassafras to set up a trap and monitor it.

I am praying for you and Sassafras. Much hope for her to be home soon.

  3. Thanks for all the support - we really appreciate it. We are working on figuring out what we can do, and how we can get it done. Jeff does not believe that the sightings today were Sassafras, and that this track is a separate visit (which we cannot date any better than saying "sometime within the past few weeks").

  4. Even if this wasn't Sass today, it is good to know she has been around the last few weeks! I think this is great news. I agree that if you can get the Columbia Country Club to agree to allow a trap, this would be fantastic. If you want more flyers put up, please let me know. Weekdays are tough but I can help out next weekend. Fingers crossed and always thinking about you.
