Map and other details - Dec 11 track

Here's the rough map of today's track, in brown.  (The yellow track is from October 20.):

Essentially, we tramped through the woods behind Glendale and Dunlop in some rough terrain and then exited behind apartments that face Connecticut. We crossed Connecticut and heading north, turning west onto Georgetown Branch Trail. From here, we were on some of the same ground as the October 20 track, following Georgetown Branch Trail to East West Highway. Then we turned back to the East on East West Highway, crossed Connecticut again. We stopped the track at Curtis and East West Highway. (It would have continued going, but it was getting dark and we didn't think that there would be much new to learn - as to why, see below).

Our hunch is that this track happened by luck, and was not related to today's sightings. Although we did eventually end up at Glendale and East West Highway (going right past the house identified by one of today's callers), when Salsa sniffed the spot where that dog was sighted (see the pictures here), Salsa came up with nothing. Combined with our inspection of the picture and assessment that the picture wasn't Sassafras, we can rule out that today's track of Sassafras' path was not connected to that sighting.

There were also sightings of two collar-less beagles together just up the street from Glendale and East West Highway. Salsa did not find Sass' scent at one of the stop signs where the paired beagles were sighted (there was another spot we did not check out), so our hunch is that that wasn't Sassafras, either. (Although Sam - Salsa's human tracking partner - did think it possible that Sass was with another male dog (based on the apparent number of pee stops).)

Finally, Sass' track started in the same yard (corner of Dunlop and Glendale) where the owner there saw a dog at 12:30 (he thought). That dog went south from the yard where our track originated. Sass went north and Salsa is trained to always seek and follow the freshest track.

All this makes it unclear, but unlikely, that today's callers saw Sass. It is impossible to put a date stamp on Salsa's tracks, so while we know Sass was there, we can not say when (Sam guesses that Salsa could find Sass' scent for up to a month). Still, it's good to know that Sass is still alive and that so many people are keeping an eye out for her!

  1. She is going back to the same spots as before. This is good. You'll have a good chance in getting her. She will be home soon!

I wish you good luck and all the best!!
